I started riding bikes in high school with friends as I wasn't too into team sports. I raced in a couple mountain bike races in high school and college, but didn't really want to put the time and effort into training at that time. I completely lost interest in racing and riding until the US Cyclocross National Championships in Baltimore, MD in 2002. After spectating at those races, I was hooked and started riding and competing in that discipline with the Fort Factory team. That culminated with winning the amateur men's National Cyclocross Championship in Portland, OR in 2004.
With more sucess I found that I needed to become more serious about my training and competition and I got back into mountain biking as training for cross. Through some connections I was given the opportunity to join with the VistPA.com mountain bike team in 2005. Mountain biking was a great way to stay in shape through the spring and summer for the cyclocross season in the fall.
Currently I have a full time job as a Parks Supervisor for a small town in Maryland in the greater Washington, D.C metro area. I also recently got married to my awesome wife who fully supports my endeavors in racing at the same time as she is training and competing in triathlons. It has been a change to work out responsibilities and commitments with work and life and finding the time to train. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Ifeel this has given me a good outlook on my cycling and encouraged me to find the time to keep training to stay competitive at the elite level.
