Sydney Brown discovered racing after taking to the bike as a way to maintain her aerobic conditioning after plantar fasciitis sidelined her running and other foot-based activities. After commuting nearly a year on an old mountain bike, she undertook a 5-day tour trip on a road bike. Upon its conclusion, another rider asked her if she raced. She said, "no." He answered that she should and later in the summer of 2006 she did her first road races and was quickly upgraded. Mentored by USA Cycling coach, Marc Walter, and locally sponsored, she continued to make rapid improvements and enjoyed many successes. With the 2010 season, Sydney will ride for Treads.com/DFT and looks forward to racing with a talented elite squad on the NRC circuit.
When she's not on the bike or at her day job at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, she might be found working on her dissertation, cooking for her teen boys, or traveling with her mom, Nancy, who was 7th at the 2009 Senior Olympics, and who also managed to beat her to a national cyclocross jersey.
