BIO

My Name Is Nicholas Fairall and I live in Andover, New Hampshire. I compete throughout Europe, also Asia, during the winter months and spend the rest of the year training and competing in the US and Europe. The majority of my training takes place in the Olympic town of Lake Placid, NY. I was first introduced to Ski Jumping by my older sister, who used to jump, when I was six years old. I have been hooked ever since. The thing I love most about jumping is the feeling I have when flying through the air for upwards of 6 seconds at speeds approaching 60 miles per hour, there is nothing better! It’s just an “Extreme Rush.” At age 11, I competed in my first U.S. Junior Olympics. At age 14, I competed in my first International Competition, the FIS World Junior Ski Championships, which was held in Finland. I have continued to compete at a National and International level ever since.

In 2009, I made my debut on the World Cup Ski Jumping Circuit. In my first ever Ski Flying World Cup competition (ski flying takes place on the world’s largest ski jumps, hills greater than 185 meters in size, athletes can jump distances of up to 240 meters) I was the first American to score World Cup points in 5 years, bringing recognition and motivation to the US Ski Jumping Team. I have placed in the top ten in Continental Cups and I was the first ever American to win a FIS Cup event. At the conclusion of the 2009/2010 Winter season, I was the Overall United States SuperTour Champion. My success as a ski jumper have been made possible by the support of friends and family and has required many years of time and dedication to the sport.

Although I have achieved a lot as a U.S. Ski Jumper, I unfortunately narrowly missed the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team. I do not see that as failure, I have learned much from this experience and I am using it to further motivate me. I look at every obstacle as a challenge, which I intend to take head on. I am driven more than ever to succeed, driven to put in more hours, driven to stay focused on my goals to become the Best Ski Jumper in the World and win an Olympic medal. That has always been my goal and it Burns aggressively in my Soul.
