I grew up doing many different sports, but focused on being an equestrian. When I went away to college, I sold my horse and bought a bike. Going to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo was the perfect location to get into triathlon. I started with sprints, and Olympic distances, and then moved to the ½ Ironman distance at Wildflower in 1990. This was my first half ironman, and I was hooked. I then bumped my goals up to qualify for Kona, the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii.
I continued to train, and eventually met my now husband, at Cal Poly. We had a goal to get me to Kona. Very patiently, through many years of work, having children, I continued to jump in to some local races and place very well. As the kids got older, I really began to focus on qualifying to race in Hawaii. 2004 was my first ironman, Ironman Florida. I had and epic race, hoping and praying I was going to get the slot. 10:48 would have taken the slot the year before, but every year is different. No luck. I did eventually qualify at Vineman, so I was going to race Kona in 2006! It was an amazing experience, and I would like to do it again at another point in my life. I now have switched over to mountain biking, racing, and xterra. It is always an exciting race. New obstacles, and new challenges, mountain biking is never boring. My big race for 2010 is to race Maui Xterra World Championships. This will be my first time to Maui Xterra, and an extremely challenging course. It sounds like something fun to put my body through.
