I was first intrigued by endurance sport in 1989 when I watched Greg Lemond beat Laurent Fignon by 8 seconds to win the closes Tour de France in history! Later that summer I saved some money to buy a racing bike and the obsession was on! I raced as a Cat 2 on the road for many years and as an Elite mountain biker as well. For many years in the mid-90's I was chasing the old NORBA Nationals Series, hoping to turn Pro. It wasn't to be. At the same time I was educating myself on the Exercise Sciences and coaching methodologies that I would later use in my career as an endurance sports coach. Working with triathletes, cyclists, runners, and Nordic skiers has brought me much greater enjoyment than any race result ever will!
I have continued to compete at a regional level with occasional “sorties” to National and even World level events. After nearly 20 years of hard work I have experienced some of my best results to date. I was top American at the 2008 World Masters Cyclocross Championships in Mol Belgium. I am a twice winner of the Zone Urban Epic triathlon in Portland Maine. In 2009 I won 8 multisport events and 3 cyclocross events out right as well. All while balancing a full time coaching gig and 3 young children.
For me, I know the writing is on the wall as far as my competitive years. My children are now discovering sport and I can't wait for 20 PLUS more years of cheering them on as they strive to succeed in the sport of their choice.
