He enrolled in Burke Mountain Academy and was Eastern junior champ at 14, J1 slalom and GS champ at 16 and on the U.S. Ski Team at 18. He left the World Cup after the '95 season to race pro, then decided to return to the U.S. Team in 1999. While still racing Erik and Bryon Friedman started a non-profit called World Cup Dreams which provides National Alpine Ski Team members with the financial resources needed to help them achieve their ski racing goals and compete at their highest level. Erik retired from skiing at the beginning of the 2009 season and now resides in Park City, UT with his wife Summer Sanders (Olympic Gold Medalist) and two children Charlie "Spider" and Skye.
